OK. Expresso kicked in.
It's amazing how dismal my outlook can be before the caffeine kicks in. Things are really ok.
I have almost finished my Christmas shopping. Hooray!
My Christmas decorations are up and beautiful. Hooray!
Jackson has had perfect behavior at school for the entire month of November. Hooray!
I am having a great day and I am in a "I really like my job" phase. Hooray!
I have the entire evening (and a fully capable husband to help me) to clean my house, finish wrapping presents, and address Christmas cards. Sort of Hooray!

Blah
Oversleeping sucks. Looking at the alarm clock and realizing 1. It did not go off, and 2. I should have gotten up 20 minutes ago, really sucks. My whole day is thrown all to Hell.
Know what also sucks? Looking around my house and seeing dog hair pillows. That really bites. Dishes in the sink that should have been washed the night before are also a bummer. Unmade beds, piles of laundry, dust everywhere, shoes scattered around the house waiting for me to trip over them, and junk cluttered on every surface. STUFF everywhere. My house is a wreck. It was clean Sunday. How did we manage to destroy it in a matter of 36 hours?????
Yep, I have the BLAHS.
You know REALLY sucks? I officially weigh more today than I have ever weighed in my life (pregnancy excluded). My size 12s are tight.
Can I complain about anything else? I think so. Athena ate another purse this week. We are up to 3. I hate her, I love her. It is a very confusing relationship.
Blah.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
I am sitting in my comfy chair, in my 60 degree home, sipping green tea, and thinking about how much my life has changed in the past year.
Why is my home 60 degrees? Because Michael and I have not run the air conditioner or the heat in over a month. Why? We don't need to. Our home has an attic fan and lots of windows for warm days, and we all have flannel sheets, flannel PJs, and warm blankets for chilly days. This is a big change for us. We don't like to be hot, and we certainly don't want to freeze our boys. Our temperature adjustment is all part of the my personal evolution in my awareness of energy consumption, material consumption, STUFF, and pollution. Michael just likes to save money (I do too!), but I don't want to burn gas and suck the grid if we don't need to.
Other changes: I don't use toilet paper anymore. Before any new readers get grossed out--we do wipe. The boys and I use cloth. I haven't transitioned Michael to this process yet, but he does seem open to the idea. Although I have used cloth feminine products for over a year, I would never have considered cloth toilet wipes until I was exposed to the idea on the blogosphere.
AND...Jackson and Alex have a complete winter wardrobe purchased at yardsales and Goodwill. OK, the do have winter coats and one pair of corduroys each purchased at Old Navy. I used to think buying my children's clothes at Target was the ultimate money saver. Not so much. Jackson and Alex have a Gap, Ralph Lauren, J. Crew Crewcuts, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and Children's Place wardrobe all purchased at Goodwill. Thanks to Gwen for opening my eyes to the world of recycled children's clothes.
Why am I sitting in my comfy chair blogging on a Monday morning? Yes, I so still work. I have been able to make that big change yet. I am now the proud parent of a public school K-5 student, and he has a vacation day today. He is eating an organic cherry pomengranite poptart and drinking organic orange juice. Another big change for this family. Although it costs a lot more, I have been trying to buy organic whenever the option is available. The result? I have a historically crappy immune system, yet I fought off a sore throat last week in a matter of a day. The boys have been very healthy and energetic this Fall, and I feel wonderful. I have a 2008 goal of getting my family chemical-free. No harsh detergents (vinegar and Dr. Bronner's soap cleans very well), organic food, and natural personal hygiene products.
AND...lets not forget I am trying to eat as few animal products as possible as I slowly transition into a vegan lifestyle.
One of the changes this family has NOT made is to opt-out of DHEC required immunizations for children. Alex has a doctor's appointment today, and he is scheduled to receive 4 immunizations and I am going to request a flu shot for my little asthmatic. Aye. Pray for us.
